What is Preterm Birth?

Preterm birth is a highly prevalent condition that is associated with very low birth weight (VLBW) and increased risk for brain abnormalities in conjunction with neurological, neurodevelopmental, behavioral and cognitive deficits. Males with preterm birth suffer greater morbidity and mortality than females. In the CIBSR, we are investigating brain volumes and gender effects on white matter associated with preterm birth. This study is a collaborative project between the CIBSR and Yale School of Medicine (Laura Ment, MD).
