TURNER SYNDROME

Evaluation and Treatment

EVALUATION

Girls (ages 3-12) with non-mosaic Turner Syndrome are invited to participate in research to increase our understanding of learning, social function, genetics and brain development in this syndrome.

Participation involves a 3-4 day evaluation including one or more of the following:

  • Neuropsychological/educational testing
  • Blood test (for genetic analysis)
  • MRI scan (to examine brain development)

Benefits of participating:

  • Free neuropsychological/educational evaluation including report
  • $150 honorarium

Travel arrangements will be made by our research staff so that there will be no cost to families for participation. 

TREATMENT

Girls age 7-12 with Turner Syndrome are invited to participate in one or more treatment programs for math and perceptual problem solving impairments.

Participation in the math strategy training involves six weeks of cognitive intervention therapy including:

  • Daily skills practice at home on a home computer
  • In-person session for training in effective math and problem solving strategies
  • Pre - and post-treatment neuropsychological testing
  • Pre - and post-treatment MRI scans

Participation in the real-time fMRI

  • Two sessions of neural feedback used for training girls with TS to control brain activation associated with math function
  • Pre - and post-treament neuropsychological testing

Benefits of participating:

  • Free treatment for math and learning difficulties associated with Turner syndrome
  • Free research report regarding your daughter’s learning strengths and weaknesses
  • $150 honorarium
