Pediatric Cancer Study

The Center for Interdisciplinary Brain Sciences Research at Stanford University is seeking volunteers to participate in a clinical trial investigating the effects of cancer and its treatments on cognitive skills in children.  We are currently recruiting individuals meeting the following criteria to participate in this new and important research:

Children ages 7-16 years who have been diagnosed with medulloblastoma or acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and have completed all anti-cancer treatments (e.g. chemotherapy, radiation)

For this study, we will ask your child to participate in:

  • a cognitive assessment to determine your child's learning strengths and weaknesses

  • a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan to examine the structure and function of the brain.

  • a cognitive intervention program designed specifically for your child, based on the cognitive testing and MRI information, to help improve learning and problem solving skills such as memory, attention and processing speed. The program involves 15 minutes of daily cognitive exercises completed via the internet.

  • a second cognitive assessment following the intervention program.

  • a second MRI scan following the intervention program.

We also will ask that you to:

Complete some questionnaires regarding your child’s current functioning

Complete a brief cognitive test that will help us determine your child’s cognitive potential.

You will receive a research cognitive assessment report which can be used to assist in educational and treatment planning.

You will receive $100 for completing the study.
